Purpose

The purpose of this exercise is to take all the information gained to this point and give it a practical application - the designing of your own character.

Principles Involved

All the principles given to you will be applied to this assignment so let’s review them all again fully.

Structural Drawing

Remember to draw from the inside out, beginning with the sphere. A house built without a solid foundation will collapse in upon itself. The same thing will happen to your character. (It just won’t be as dramatic looking.)

Anatomy

Understanding the underlying anatomy of your character is based on the principles of human anatomy. Get this down as quickly as possible.

Proportion

Maintaining the proportions of your character is very important. Every feature of your character has it’s own proportion that must be maintained, otherwise your character will go “off model”.

Volume / Mass

Are both tied into the character’s proportions. You can stretch and squash the character but don’t loose the overall mass.
