Model / Character Design

What is the essence of character design? We all know it’s drawing different characters on paper as a guide for all the other artists working on a project. To make sure that the character stays on model. And as you’ve been reading up to this point, it’s making the character look like who they are inside to get the point across faster to the audience. But is there something more... something deeper than all that?? No, unfortunately there isn’t. I’ll bet you thought I was going to get all psychological with this and bring in some higher meaning... well sorry, there isn’t any.

Character design is the simple process of drawing the character in an appealing way so that your audience accepts them as they are presented for who they are to serve the higher purpose of making the story work. The end.
