Perspective Drawing of Your Room

Stand in one corner of your room and look into the opposing corner and draw what you see. Do the same thing again from the opposing corner.

This is another one of those things that you would think would be pretty easy to figure out. This person is having an out of body experience. I will give her an easy out on this one though, I think she got confused and thought that we were asking for a location design of her room which would show this point of view (she just forgot to take off the other closest wall).

Notwithstanding all that though, her perspective leaves a little to be desired. (I keep saying "her" because I hope there aren't any guys with teddy bears on their beds and dresses on hangers). Draw a horizon line and stick two vanishing points off to the sides then draw everything to them.

Here's one with the proper horizon line... well actually, there are ten different horizon lines in this drawing and only one of them should be the right one.

It's drawings like this that make us just shake our heads and say, "I don't think so."

As a little side story here, I have one portfolio submission from a guy who sent in photos of all the elements required. Not photos of his drawings but actual photos of rooms in his house, a couple of photos of his hand, family pictures of his mom and dad, sitting, standing - holding a vase, running and walking. That was a very bizzare portfolio... he didn't get into the program either.

Here is a perfect example of that high school "Dream Art Assignment" that I was talking about before. This picture shows a woman in a long dress about to assend an endless flight of stairs into the clouds. There is a chandelier suspended just above her from a separate cloud. Her dress sweeps off to the side of the stairs in front of her to form a cliff over an aomeba like shape.

This represents the young girl's point of decision in her life of whether to move up the stairs to womanhood or take the fateful plunge over the cliff into insanity. This juxtaposition represents that fleeting moment in the females life when she is about to have her first... what the heck??? How did I get off on this tangent?? Sorry about that.

Don't submit any art like this, please. We spend way too much time trying to interpret what it means and whether we should or shouldn't let you into the program... it just gets way too messy.

Ahh yes, the classic guy in army fatigues, with an AK-49 semi-automatic rifle shooting a young buck in a forest clearing. Brings back some mighty fine meomories of me and the guys up at the cottage during that winter of '98.

Yes sirree, that was some mighty fine young venison. Still have his head mounted over the fireplace as a reminder of the good ol' days!

Is it ever right to do drawings like this???

I don't think so.

And finally, for your discerning appraisal...may I present:

Psyco-Baby

Thank-you...

and Goodnight!
