This was another layout from the "Me and Max" concept. It's a two point perspective bg with the focal point being the top of the stairs.
One of the pirates sticks his head into the hole looking for the kid and Max. He then starts to walk down the stairs and then the scene cuts to a close up, up shot of the pirate as he walks down. Youll probably have noticed that the majority of my layouts are pretty simple. I dont like to clutter up the backgrounds with a lot of meaningless information unless its actually going to help put across a specific message about the location. I learned this from working on series work that less is better. Too much detail can distract from the characters and it also costs a lot more in time to do the layout as well as to paint the final Background. |

If the budget for the production was substantially higher, as it would be for a feature film, then you could get away with more details in the bgs. Try watching The Secret of N.I.M.H. and see how much detail they put into those backgrounds... wow! |
