Now, what if every time you looked at another object in the bedroom, it had shifted slightly in position and shrunk or grew in size and this kept happening over and over again. You would definitely question your sanity.

It doesn’t happen in real life, so unless it’s part of the plot line within your cartoon, it shouldn’t happen there either.

As artists, we must begin to train ourselves to see these things as we draw them, otherwise our drawings of characters or environments seems to be sloppy, inconsistant and unprofessional. The animation industry demands this attention to detail.

This is the primary point to this excercise. There is no point in designing and trying to draw amazing looking cartoon characters if you can’t control you drawing ability with these 4 simple geometric shapes from just two points of view. As an animation artist you will be required to do this type of analytical drawing all the time and your value as an artist to the studio will come into question if you can’t. Simply put: if you can’t draw consistantly, the studio will fire you and hire someone who can.
