Perspective

Perspective is essential in creating the illusion of a three dimensional character on a flat two dimensional sheet of paper. This involves the understanding of three primary areas:

1. The placement of the horizon line in relation to the character and their environment.
2. One, two and three point perspective and how it relates to the positioning of the various body parts of the character in space and in relationship to each other.
3. How to properly draw an ellipse as it relates to the tilt of the various body parts. (For example, this would be used for drawing construction and center lines on the character to indicate the placement of the eyes on the characters head.)

The use of perspective will also aid in foreshortening any part of the character if it’s required within the scene.
