Before you read this section
This information goes way beyond what I actually want you to do on this assignment. This would be a sequence from a larger film. I’ve outlined the character designs, location designs, props, and storyboards.
All I want you to do is the character design for one of the two characters.

Character Designs
The characters involved are Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Draw a standard model sheet for each of them. Take your cues for the expressions and attitudes directly from the script.
Location Designs
This sequence takes place inside Dr. Jekyll’s laboratory. The design style is gothic architecture. Arches, bookshelves, lab table, test tubes, beakers, bunson burners, spiral tubing, etc. You could go with the Frankenstein type of lab if you want, with the big bulky electronic machines and zapping electrodes.
Draw two opposing views of the location.
Be sure to provide enough elements to create an interesting composition within all the possible camera angles that might be encountered later in the storyboard stage. |
