Rendering

August 30th, 2002
week 14

I spent the entire week setting up the lights and doing test renderings for most of the scenes. Our instructor Mark was a machine when it came to the special effects in the film. He spent a ton of time setting up the particle effects for the rain, dry ice, fog and torches.

The rain was really neat. He has set it up so that the particles hit all the surfaces in the scene and then splatter, so when Igor runs out of the tower, the rain is splashing off his head and off the floorboards. It looks great.

We also did a test rendering of scene 3 in the lab with all the test tubes and stuff. With the refractions and ray tracing on it takes about 45 minutes for each frame (there are 375 frames in this scene) but they look incredible! I'm amazed by what this program can do.

Here is a sampling of some of the renders. Some have effects and some don't. Also, some of the lighting needs to be adjusted so that it is more consistant on the cuts. Click here to see the renders.
