Introduction to the course

week 1

The first week of classes are over with and my brain is leaking.

I'm not computer illiterate. I've been using computers for the past 17 years and I think I'm fairly capable of doing a few things. Maya is a completely different world. There is so much to this thing it's really scaring me. We've spent the past week immersing ourselves to the point where I feel as though I'm drowning.

I drove home and stopped for gas. I couldn't remember how to work the gas pump. I turned to the guy in the booth and held my hands up in a shrug. I was too dazed to be embarassed. Over the speaker he walked me through the process, "Pick up the pump handle and select the grade you want..." My brain began funcioning after this audio prompt. I didn't bother to look around at the other people who were no doubt staring at me in disbelief. I just didn't care at that point.

We did some path animation, which I couldn't get to work. Then a ball roll. That went a bit better. Then came the ball bounce. "I can do that!" I thought. It didn't come out the way I had expected. 30 frames a second??? What kind of timing is that? What about 24 frames per second? Video!? What the heck are you talking about? Give me some paper and I'll have this assignment done in half an hour!

I just want to go to sleep.
